What is a Family Advocate?

We create services and activities to foster strong and healthy relationships within the home. We provide support in a case management manner. Our job is to communicate between families, staff, the community, and other family-related services. The Family Advocacy Center provides intensive case management and follow-up services to families who have been reported to the Illinois Department of Children and Family Services (DCFS) for any type of neglect and/or abuse of the children. Our Advocates collaborate with a child welfare/protection specialists, service providers, and the family to provide intensive services to parents to enable the family to remain together.

OUR SERVICES

Anger Management Class

We offer a 10-week program with a experienced, degreed facilitator. Our courses help to foster an understanding of anger and a variety of strategies to constructively manage it. The facilitator promotes sharing and learning in a safe and comfortable setting. The program involves presentation, shared discussion and the practice of specific skills and is adapted to the unique needs of each individual. Constructive feedback and monitoring are a part of each session. The primary goals of our anger management classes are learning specific behavioral skills, identify ways of thinking and develop cope strategies.


After School Programs

Our valued partners offer after school programs that serve children and youth of all ages, and encompasses a broad range of focus areas including academic support, mentoring, youth development, arts, and sports and recreation. The activities in which children and youth engage while outside of school hours are critical to their development.


Career Readiness

We offer a program that helps guide our clients in the right direction of pursuing a career. Being career ready in this ever-changing global economy will require adaptability and commitment. Our partners help clients in achieving that goal.


Case Management

Our team works hard to serve as a means for achieving client wellness and autonomy through advocacy, communication, education, identification of service resources and service facilitation. We help identify appropriate providers and facilities throughout the continuum of services, while ensuring that available resources are being used in a timely and cost-effective manner in order to obtain optimum value. Case management services are best offered in a climate that allows direct communication between the case manager, the client, and appropriate service personnel, in order to optimize the outcome for all concerned.


Computer Training & Literacy

We offer a program that will help people entering the workforce. Technology in the world is advancing rapidly, and it is up to us to adapt to that change. We teach the basic skills needed to be able to work a computer, along with a crash course in Microsoft Office. 


Counseling

We offer an introductory 8-week program with a licensed clinical professional counselor for individuals, groups and couples. The adult ages 18 and older sessions are 1 hours per visit and adolescent ages sessions are 30 minutes per visit. (Trauma Based, Sexual Abuse, Substance Abuse, Domestic Violence, and Grief Counseling). Each counselor is trained to deal with the designated issue.


Family Visitation Site

We offer a safe, neutral environment for supervised visits and exchanges between parents and their children.  Referring agencies must provide onsite supervision.


Foster Care Alumni Services

We offer all services to alums from foster care who are in need of assistance. Our focus is to connect alumni through experiences, as well as advocating to empower young adults to overcome their circumstances.


Home Visitation

We offer in-home appointments for those who may have a disability, temporary transportation and childcare obstacles. One of our staff can come out to you. Please call our office for further guidelines and details.


Housing Assistance

We offer support to families in need of purchase, rental and shelter.  Please call our office for further details. 


Intake & Assessment

We offer a comprehensive 1-hour Intake and Assessment. It is a brief initial meeting where EPIC and the client gather information to address the client's immediate needs. Collectively we evaluate the related needs with accuracy and sensitivity to develop an initial individual service plan. EPIC assures the client’s privacy and confidentiality in all phases of services.


Life Skills Training

We offer a 8-session independent living skills training for youth who are in need of learning, enhancing, or supporting life skills to effectively transition into adulthood. 


Mentoring Program

Our valued partners offer young people support, counseling and reinforcement, to help them improve their quality of life. Our mentors are positive role models that encourage academic success and positive behavioral practices.


Parenting Class

We offer a 10-week program with an experienced, degreed facilitator. Our courses are tailored to help parents struggling with parenting for one reason or another.  The primary goals of our parenting classes are improving relationships between parents and their children and advising parents how to deal with the daily responsibilities of maintaining a home and family, in positive ways.


Parent Coach

We offer a 10-week in-home program with an experienced, degreed facilitator. Our courses are tailored to help parents struggling with parenting for one reason or another.  The primary goals of our parenting coach service are improving approaches and strategies to enhance parent and child relationship and advising the parent how to deal with the daily responsibilities of maintaining a home and family, in positive ways.


Reading Coach

We offer a program that assists the youth adults in reading practices as well as writing. We plan to help improve reading abilities and hope that others will pass on the information we give them.


Resume Writing

We offer a program to provide quality of resume writing and career services. Our staff offer job seekers the tools they need to get and win interviews. We provide services according to the needs of our clients. 


Transportation (for appointments)

We offer limited transportation services to our clients. Please call our office for further information. 


Workforce Development

We work with our valued partners to link our clients to a variety of job search services and training opportunities to help job seekers of all ages and at all levels of experience gain the necessary skills to be competitive in today’s job market.
